Danville welcomes new renewable natural gas facility, boosting local air quality
One of the first renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities in the area has opened its doors in Danville.
Ameresco and Republic Services partnered together to bring this facility to Danville, benefiting the environment and local air quality.
The naturally occurring gas that comes off the landfill includes oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, methane, and countless other contaminants. So how is this gas converted into usable natural gas? Senior Project Developer for Ameresco, Jim Bier, explained how.
RNG is a cleaner and more environmentally friendly alternative to regular fossil fuels. However, the facility and use of natural gas will benefit the local community as well.
After the gas is put into the pipeline, it will mainly be used for transportation.
The RNG from this plant will be distributed locally across Danville, and the country.
The plant also economically benefits the city and community of Danville through employment and taxes.
During construction, they provided around 100 full-time jobs, and now have several full-time operators on staff.
